Judith Scott is a 62 years old North American sculptress who finally receives international recognition after living for 36 years in a psychiatric institution. Judith has Down’s Syndrome and is deaf and mute. Her twin sister Joyce, who is not handicapped, helps us to reconstruct her story. Her history is an explosive one, and the film travels to the Creative Growth Art Center in California to discover other prominent figures, who like Judith, seek to express themselves through their art.
Produced by Julio Medem (Lovers of the Arctic Circle, The Basque Ball), WHAT´S UNDER YOUR HAT? is a touching reflection about the isolation that a disability can provoke, and of the sense of connectedness and communication that art can restore.
